Espadeiro Terra de Asorei 2021
100% Espadeiro
Spain, Galicia, Rías Baixas
Espadeiro is one of Galicia’s most intriguing native red varieties of the Atlantic coast. Traditionally overshadowed by its white Albaniño counterpart, this ancient grape thrives in the granite soils and maritime breezes of the Salnés Valley. Adegas Terra de Asorei has brought it back to life, producing just over 200 cases from the 2021 harvest. The fruit comes from vines more than fifty years old in Cambados and Padrenda Meaño, resulting in a limited-edition wine that captures the raw Atlantic soul of Rías Baixas.
Radiant croimson, this Espadeiro Terra de Asorei 2021 shows a deep cherry color edged by a subtle violet rim. With 4 years of bottle age it still remains youthful and refined. It can only get better over the next few years.
The nose is bright and layered, expressing red fruit with notes of freshly crushed strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Hints of vanilla and sweet spice follow. As it opens, nuances of wild herbs and wet granite are revealed, reflecting the wine’s coastal terroir.
On the palate, it opens softly. The acidity is bright and well integrated, while silky tannins frame the fruit, giving a balanced structure. Juicy red berries, a touch of creaminess, and a fine minerality carry through to the finish.
Long and graceful, it leaves impressions of ripe fruit, subtle spice, and a faint saline note that speaks of the nearby Atlantic. Elegant and full-bodied without excess, this is Espadeiro at its most expressive — authentic, balanced, and truly Galician.
