55% old vine Mataro
45% old vine Grenache
I stumbled across this bottle and thought—a four-year-old rosé? But then again, Morgan Twain-Peterson knows how to make exceptional California wine.
Most California rosés are best enjoyed young, within a year or two of bottling. But this one? It has absolutely stood the test of time. Even after four years, it’s still fresh, vibrant, and beautifully expressive—a true testament to the thoughtful farming and masterful winemaking at Bedrock Wine Co.
From a visual standpoint, this is the most delicate hue of Ode to Lulu I’ve seen—something that belies the wine’s richness and depth. On the nose, fresh red berries, nectarine, and citrus mingle with subtle herbal nuances. The palate is supple and graceful, with concentrated flavors of stone fruit and strawberry, and a long, saline-tinged finish that leaves a lingering floral note.
Made from 55% old vine Mataro and 45% old vine Grenache, Ode to Lulu is Bedrock’s heartfelt tribute to the Bandol rosés they adore—most especially Domaine Tempier, named in honor of the legendary Lulu Peyraud, the iconic force behind the revival of Mourvèdre in Bandol and a symbol of Provençal hospitality.
If you’re lucky enough to come across this vintage—buy it! I’d wager it still has another year or two of cellar life ahead. But it’s drinking brilliantly right now, with all the poise and character you’d hope for in a wine made with such purpose and passion.
$24.
