Ca‘ di Mat Albillo Real Valautin 2020

Spain, Madrid, DO Vinos de Madrid
Abillo Real (Abillo)

From Curro Bareño and Jesús Olivares—renowned for their boundary-pushing Galician projects Fedellos do Couto and Ronsel do Sil—comes Ca’ di Mat, a new endeavor rooted in San Martín de Valdeiglesias in the Sierra de Gredos, where their winemaking journey began. The name, meaning “House of Fools” in a Piedmontese dialect, reflects the irreverent spirit of the project, a collaboration with long-time friends who steward a biodiverse 20-hectare family farm rich with wild herbs, ancient oaks, and old-vine Garnacha, Albillo Real, and Moscatel.

In the glass, the wine shines with a golden hue and offers a lifted bouquet of honeyed apricot, white peach, and golden apple, laced with floral notes of chamomile and white blossoms. Chalky minerality and a faint salinity add complexity and precision. The palate is fresh and vibrant—floral, herbaceous, and subtly spicy—with layers of stone fruit, citrus zest, and a touch of honey. Elegant and nuanced, this is a wine of brightness and balance, easy to drink yet quietly complex.
