A little history:
Verdejo from Rueda DO located in the Community of Castilla Y León, northwest of Madrid, is a white grape variety that produces crisp, aromatic, and refreshing wines. Known for their vibrant aromatics, high acidity, and versatility, Verdejo wines are a true expression of the unique terroir of Rueda. Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with food, Verdejo wines are a delightful choice for those seeking a lively and expressive white wine. There are some similarities to the sauvignon blanc grape in terms of its flavor profile, both grapes produce crisp, aromatic, and refreshing white wines with high acidity and vibrant flavors. A Verdejo makes for a great summer wine, generally low in alcohol at about 12.5%

Oro de Castilla Verdejo 2019 (Rueda DO) – Organically grown
I was not familiar with this wine or maker but thought that it might be a good time to introduce a verdejo wine to our guests. Knowing the grape, the importer, and that it was made in Rueda, I was pretty sure it wasn’t going to be a complete disaster.
I found this wine to be very agreeable, 100% Verdejo. It was pale yellow with green reflections. Aromas of pear, melon, and citrus. Refreshing and fresh with ample fruit and a touch of pineapple, good acidity, and balance. A very clean finish.
