A Teixa is a distinguished single vineyard in Ribeiro owned by Luis Rodríguez. The vines are deeply rooted in crumbling granite soil. The Ribeiro D.O. is an ancient Galician wine region located 45 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean, just north of Portugal. Ribeiro had historically produced Spain’s most prestigious white wines at one time but Luis and a few others are responsible for the revitalization of artisanal Ribeiro winegrowing and exquisite wine making.
This elegant wine showcases the Treixadura grape, native to the regfion, with thoughtful additions of Godello and Albariño. Unique to this bottling, the wine ferments with indigenous yeasts within a large foudre, where it also undergoes a year of aging before bottling. Further maturation for an additional year in the cellar ensures its complexity and elegance upon release.
The 2016 A Teixa Blanco unveils an impressive aromatic array, blending notes of pear and a hint of green olive with layers of complex minerality, dried flowers, and a subtle whisper of vanillin oak. On the palate, the wine presents a profound depth, full body, and a plush texture. It boasts a solid core, superb acidity, lovely balance, and a firm grip, culminating in a long, complex, and utterly elegant finish. Even at eight years old, this wine displays youthful vigor, promising even greater complexity with further aging. I plan to treasure my last bottle for a few more years, anticipating its continued evolution.
