Listan Blanco (Palomino Fino)
Organic Farming
I got this wine by accident, but I’m glad I did—it gave me my first taste of Envinate’s Canary Island whites made from Listán Blanco, having recently tasted the UBE Cota 45 from Jerez. The Benje is a solid wine, but I’m really looking forward to Envinates Palo Blanco, sourced from old vines high up on a volcano overlooking the Atlantic.
The 2022 Benje is unfiltered and slightly cloudy, with green lemon, farmyard, and straw scents. On the palate, it’s dry, taut, and acidic, with excellent persistence and tension. It shows that Listán Blanco/Palomino isn’t just for fino. I believe it will evolve beautifully with a year or two in the bottle.
