2021 Lapeyre Jurancon Sec

Jurançon is nestled in Southwest France, beneath the Pyrenees Mountains, offering an experience far removed from traditional French settings. Here, the language is Occitan, the food evolves into a unique blend of French and Catalan flavors, and the wines are exotic.

Jurançon grows primarily two grape varieties: Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng. As their names suggest, Gros Manseng yields larger fruit, while Petit Manseng produces a smaller berry.

Clos Lapeyre’s introductory Jurançon Sec is 100% Gros Manseng. Despite often being regarded as the “Riesling of the South,” this wine steers clear of any sweetness. Instead, it boasts intense acidity, vibrant energy, and a refreshing quality akin to Sauvignon Blanc or Grüner Veltliner.

While the Riesling comparison may be rooted in its aromatic profile, Lapeyre’s Jurançon Sec captivates with its zesty lemon acidity and luscious stone fruit juiciness. A really delightful wine.
